Abstract

The rapid development of online games has led to addiction or Internet Gaming Disorder (IGD), which is recognized as a serious behavioral disorder. This study aims to analyze the spread of online gaming addiction using a mathematical modeling approach by constructing a compartmental model, analyzing its stability, and determining and interpreting the threshold value of the spread. A literature review method was used with a modification of the compartmental model for a population aged 12-22 years. The analysis included determining two equilibrium conditions (addiction-free and addiction-endemic), which were analyzed using linearization and numerical simulation. The results show that the addiction-free equilibrium is stable when the basic reproduction number is less than one, meaning that addiction can eventually disappear from the population. Conversely, when the value becomes greater than one, addiction will persist and become endemic
